Recording Equipment

Your choice of equipment for transcribing recordings may depend upon availability, your technical skills and/or your budget. If you are budget conscious and technically minded I have provided a few links here to help you on your way. By far, the biggest expenses will be:

  • A set of styli/cartridges - if you choose to go down that path.
  • A computer and sound card - if you don't already have one.
  • A new turntable capable of playing 78s - if you choose to buy one as opposed to modifying one.
  • A phono-pre amp - if you opt to buy one instead of making it.
  • A set of quality speakers/headphones
  • The software - you need it!

As you will be aware from these pages, cheaper alternatives are available for most options with a bit of effort and hopefully in reading this we can assume you already have a capable computer!
